When you visit a massage therapist, you may be looking for a specific type of massage, such as Swedish or Shiatsu. There are many benefits to either type, and at The World’s Best Massage Chairs (WBMC), we’ve covered a few of the types in a previous post. However, since we want every customer to be as informed as possible before he or she buys a luxury chair, we’re going to go a bit more in-depth in regards to Shiatsu massage!
The Theory Behind Shiatsu
As you may already know, Shiatsu massage originated in Japan, and takes some facets from traditional Chinese medicine. Eastern medicine takes a much different approach than Western medicine, and the focus of Shiatsu is to realign the body’s qi (chi). When the energy within the body is blocked or obstructed, a person begins to experience pain and discomfort. By focusing on the body’s pressure points, the qi can be put back into alignment, thus removing the pain.
The Technique
The word “shiatsu” translates to “finger pressure” in English, and that is exactly what this type of massage utilizes. By using his or her fingers, palms, and elbows, the massage therapist applies pressure to the pressure points and works on relieving pain and restoring balance to the body. By moving across the surface of the body to the joints and limbs, the therapist’s aim is to promote healing and remove any pain that the person on the table is feeling.
Integrating Shiatsu into a Massage Chair
If you’ve ever received a Shiatsu massage from a licensed therapist, then you know how beneficial it can be. Unlike Swedish massage, Shiatsu applies more pressure on the muscles, which can be a bit uncomfortable at first, but once the knots are worked out, you can end up feeling much better. The “kneading” sensation that Shiatsu provides has been integrated into the massage chairs in our online store, and even if a chair doesn’t have a specific “Shiatsu” setting, there is a program that will provide a massage that’s very close to it. The Panasonic MA-J7 and MA-73 are currently the best deep tissue Shiatsu massage chairs available.
The Benefits of Shiatsu
There have been many benefits from Shiatsu that have been observed over the years. Those who always feel tired or fatigued can experience rejuvenation after sitting in his or her chair. If someone is suffering from poor circulation, he or she can restore proper blood flow to their muscles and joints. If you’ve been injured while running or hiking, a full-body Shiatsu massage can do wonders for your recovery.
